As more and more people make use of home DNA paternity tests, it is worth taking note of some of the advantages and disadvantages of this newfound medical technology. Thanks to advances in DNA testing technology, it has never been easier or cheaper to perform a home DNA paternity test in India. Using the internet, one simply selects a properly accredited DNA testing company, orders a testing kit online and waits for it to be sent to your home. A DNA sample can be collected in the comfort of your own home and posted back to the laboratory in the same day, with one then waiting for the results to be sent to you. It’s as simple as that. A home DNA testing kit will typically contain 3 sets of oral swabs, which are individually coloured to correspond with the respective envelopes in which they must then be sealed before submitting. A DNA sample is taken by rubbing the oral swab on the inside cheek of the mouth in order to collect cheek cells. DNA contained within these cells will then be extracted by a laboratory and analysed. The procedure is simple and pain free, and, if done correctly, will deliver results that are accurate and reliable. The biggest attraction of the home DNA paternity test is that the entire process can be done in the privacy of your own home, and, in your own time. Past paternity tests involved a doctor taking a blood sample, but today’s DNA paternity test no longer requires you to make a doctor’s appointment or have painful blood tests. Once the kit is sent to you and you have taken the necessary samples, you simply post it to the laboratory indicated on your kit and wait for your results. These will typically take between 5-7 working days and results are sent by email and post. The Home DNA Paternity Test - Disadvantages There are some disadvantages to using a home DNA paternity test. A “home test” or “peace of mind” test as it’s also known, will only provide results to satisfy curiosity. These results have no legal bearing and are not admissible in a court of law. For results with legal bearing, it is necessary to order a legal DNA test, which differs from a home DNA test in that the kit must be taken to a doctor, where DNA samples are collected by a medical professional, who then authenticates the identification of the samples provided, seals the envelopes and sends the samples to the laboratory. The biggest, and most obvious disadvantage to the home DNA test, is the ease with which a person can cheat on it. Any person wishing to avoid a positive paternity result would simply have to submit a different DNA sample to their own. This could occur in cases where an alleged father wants to disprove paternity over a child, or, by the same token, if a woman wanted to cheat on a test she could submit DNA from a different child. Unless the samples are taken in the presence of each other and sent off to the lab immediately, there is no way to be sure that the samples submitted are accurate. At easyDNA India your home DNA testing kit will be sent to you via courier, at no additional charge, and should reach you within 1-5 working days once payment has been processed. easyDNA specialize in the provision of reliable, accurate and confidential DNA Paternity Testing, DNA Relationship Testing and DNA Forensic Testing to both the private and public sector.
